Our process:

For over 30 years, NYFWT has managed to keep up with the booming technology this age has to offer. Every couple of years, we attend domestic and international trade shows all over the world. Even in todays distressed markets, we up keep the most advanced machinery this day has to offer. Our materials are hand selected from the most natural and organic forests from all parts of the world including the Americas, Canada, parts of Africa and Brazil. Every distinctive project is handled independently one at a time to determine which materials suits it the most.
Once the materials are selected (if not specifically chosen or provided by the client) we personally hand turn a concept or prototype for the client to approve. Once changes are made (if any to be done) we floor it to full steam and our modern day technology produces the first draft of our products.
There on, the product goes through an extensive detail producing process which takes the product through several other machines whom are person operated. Our hand turners then finalize detail with edges, straight cuts, custom solid or hollow twists, flutes or reeds (lines) and or brass, aluminum and iron work. From there, each single product goes through the finalization stage.
Each staircase and its accessories goes through an extensive sanding process. Our professional team of sanders have over 10+ years of experience and have one goal... finish ready. Once they are done with their baluster, newel or a simple moulding, that piece will be ready for any type of finishing our client wishes to do in the future, paint or stain.
Your sanded and carefully packaged product will then either be shipped via our good friends at FedEx, picked up by our client or if local, put into one of our GPS equipped NYFWT trucks and professionally hand delivered with care.

Our History:

It all began with one motivated man with a huge vision. Mohamad "Toufic" Jabakhanji started New York Fine Woodturning in 1973. Starting off with one wood turning lathe, 5 chisels and used sand paper, Toufic was deeply in love with woodturning and design. He began designing and creating stair parts for premier millwork and stair companies across New York by the 80's.
By that time, he led a team of artist woodworkers and they began to fabricate turnings, carvings, custom furniture and stair models to highly established developers, builders, contractors, interior designers and architects.
By the 90's, New York Fine Woodturning was in both the custom hand turning and millwork, and in the commercial stock side of the business. Nyfwt began to take on standard products as well and invested in advanced machinery to produce our low cost balusters and posts by volume. Today, New York Fine Woodturning runs on the same mentality as the founder had. As industry leaders, our work is still hand made, our materials are still the highest quality and our machines are still innovative. For the decades to come, cheers!

Our Goal

Since 1973 we focused on making quality woodworking at a competitive price. Nothing has changed. We are second generation carrying on a legacy that has stretched for decades. Creating custom made hand turnings, twists and flutes is our everyday job. We make a living doing this and we love it.
Our goal is to provide the same quality we have been delivering for decades. Our professional craftsmanship remains unchanged and our ability to reach out to our clients and deliver their needs is still strong. We want to make sure that our clients get the best customer service and by that we mean a friendly relationship is built with everyone we work with.
We are what we build and we still believe in our woodworking. We continue to work on one job at a time to ensure no mistakes are made and that timing lands right on target if not earlier. Our materials range from the best Oak's to Maple, American Walnut and Cherry, African Mahoganies to exotics such Rosewood, Brazilian Cherry and Ipe ect.
Our blades are sharpened daily. Our pencils stay sharp and our eyes are still sharper than Eagles. At New York Fine Woodturning, we ensure each cove and each twist is identical to our prototype and to keep our client on the edge! Our goal stays unchanged, keeping the art alive.
